Oh so Scandinavian, it oozes from the frame with every awkward interaction and stilted line delivery. Absurdist and filled with metaphor, Mother, Couch! is an oddball family drama about processing guilt, cathartic release, and the fear of becoming our own parents. Those with a penchant for these off-piste character movies (like me) will find a new gem here; it all depends on how accepting you are of imagery, analogies and metaphors in your movies. Lovely stuff, and with a killer cast to boot.

>*"Who walks into a bar and fucks a Welshman, a Scotsman and an American?"* *David Is Afraid* A decent dysfunctional family drama with a surreal edge and a ton of mommy issues. I like the premise of someone refusing to budge from a couch until they've dealt with their shit and the family drama was interesting here but I did get bored at times and the pacing is a little rough. Very good performances, Ewan McGregor is a master at playing shy, confused, anxious and awkward here while Taylor Russell manages to steal the spotlight. The characters are layered but we don't get to explore some as much as what I wanted. The comedy is well-placed and it fits with the tone but the jokes aren't very good, I did laugh a few times though. Beautiful score that elevates everything. Nice camerawork. It has a discreet surreal edge the whole runtime but it goes full on *Beau Is Afraid* in the third act and it makes a lot more sense than the aforementioned. It's metaphorical and artistic but to the detriment of the emotions for me, I didn't get emotional and I feel like i'm the demographic for it. Although it did make me mad and frustrated with the characters and I think that's intentional. >*"Life is too short to dwell on commodities that don't work."*
