Not a fan of the books and the movie is equally bad. Cutesy to the point of neasea. Boring characters, lame dialogue. Watchable but just barely.

They did it....right at the very very end they squeezed a gay into the movie!!! They just can't have a movie or a TV show without one. The movie was ok with the odd funny bits. Good time waster.

I was contemplating reading the book, but thought otherwise. I'm not much of a murder mystery reader, I prefer horror, sci-fi or fantasy when it comes to books. I do like some good crime movies, murder movies, but this... this was a let down. I was eager to watch this, but ultimately found it boring, illogical, and shallow. We didn't get to know anything about the characters, just superficial stuff: Ibrahim is a doctor, Joyce is a widow, Ron has a famous son, and Elizabeth... who the hell knows anything about her? And I get it, you have to hook in the watchers with a few information, but the lack of information given in this movie kind of ruined the whole story. And I haven't even started on the aspects of solving the murder cases... I didn't like it. I know that some murder mysteries works with the unreliable narrator, thus the reader won't know all the information our detective has, but with this movie... Elizabeth's character was forced to do everything, she was the absolute mastermind, yet we never saw how she solved anything. She just... knew stuff. Like the way she had those files about the financial situation of nursing home. The one the police couldn't get it. So because of these stuff, this was a let down for me. Maybe the book is better, maybe it's better reasoned, but I found this movie a weak one, one I'm not sure I'll continue if there will be a second or third part. The actors did and awesome job, I just wish this movie had a much more solid script.

I read the book when it came out, the old people stuff was okay i guess but the murder mystery stuff wasn't that good. I think they've changed the plot a bit for the film anyway. The relationship between the young woman pc and the detective is quite a bit different, there's no mentorship or warmth between them in the film he's just "obnoxious dumb white man cop" and she's "budding genius black woman detective oppressed by the boys clubn". Pierce Brosnan is badly miscast, hell so is David Tennant, the guy playing the detective, Richard E Grant as some ex-hard man gangster??.... All terrible. I found it pretty boring overall and not as cosy. Shuld have been a lower budget tv movie or something.
