This show is a pinnacle example of why most other mainstream shows dumb it down to a sixth grade level. As you can see by the Trakt comments, most viewers get cranky and confused if you make them use their brain. For those of us with the capacity to follow a layered plot and otherwise engage with the story on an intellectual level, this series is deeply intriguing and rewards you for paying attention. The clever plot is enhanced by spectacular visuals and sound design. The acting and directing is extremely competent to seal the deal. To be explicitly clear, this is NOT an action show. This is a heady and dialog-heavy drama. If you can't keep up, please do us all a favor and go watch Transformers or a Marvel movie. Spare us your whining and low ratings because you have a low IQ.
When I watch a series, the first episode is always the judgement time, whether to go forward or skip the whole series. Based on the first episode, anyone should have the idea how the series will progress or the promise of the whole series. For me, the first episode said Dune Prophecy is just an opportunity to grab as much as money on the franchise with little progress or explanation of the Dune Saga. Just like WandaVision which should be a 3 mini episode mini series that Disney expanded into 10 episodes. It's a waste of time. Dune Prophecy first episode showed signs of little explanations, mysterious characters, and the prophecy to be told about event 10.000 year forward. It should have been made into 1 single movie, instead of a mini series (it'll be worst if it became multi seasons series). I skip this.
I don't understand people complaining about it being "boring", all politics and stuff like that. GoT in space, that kind of stuff. Well, yes it is, because that is literally what Dune is. The Dune universe is all about political scheming with a bit of action sprinkled here and there on occassion. It's the mind games that make it interesting. I love this show. The only thing that bugs me is that Travis Fimmel is literally just recycling his Ragnar Lothrok character from Vikings. He even speaks like Ragnar here and uses the same facial expressions and some mannerisms. Very annoying. I know it must be by choice because he can definitely act otherwise, from what I've seen. Perhaps it was not by his choice and he was directed to act the same way.
Started watching without knowing anything about the production of this show, so, no prejudices. Two episodes in, this is clearly not Frank Herbert's Dune. Maybe it's Brian Herbert's Dune, I wouldn't know, nor care. Moreover, the writing is, once again, terrible. The rest … as is often the case nowadays, the rest would be decent, but what does the rest even matter when you have nothing to say, and you say it so badly? Because we live in confused times, I feel compelled to specify that I have no problem with women! I like women. I love women. I think the entire concept of the Bene Gesserit to be the coolest invention by Frank Herbert. Forever in debt to Bev for the inspiration she provided. (Watching this after Arcane made this level of writing, both with respect to the story and to the characters, especially embarrassing, the comparison merciless)
