Sinopsis

Pretty goddamn hilarious. All of the jokes are on point. Comedy shows don't get better than this

If you're a British millennial, this show was your childhood. Can't give higher praise to a coming of age sitcom than that. Nothing else like it before or since.

This show is often praised for being the most accurate depiction of UK teenagers in the 2000s. Think _Superbad_ but with a fresh paint of 00s UK indie culture, which definitely makes it an interesting time capsule. I wouldn't say I remember being as relentlessly horny as the main characters on this show, but I can see how the target demographic connected with it at the time. However, much like _Superbad_, I just don't get much out of this and that's probably due to the commitment to authenticity. Most of this is just lowbrow 'edgy' teenager humor and cringy coming-of-age situations that aren't cathartic or interesting in any way. After the first season it already starts to feel repetitive and the characters only get more annoying as the show goes on. Stylistically it's also pretty bland. I liked the use of garage rock and some of the fast editing early on, but that sort of fades into the background during the next two seasons. I can only assume that it was probably already clear at the time that none of this was going to age very well, which is arguably true because it hasn't really left a lasting mark on pop culture. It's a product of its time made for a specific audience, not some essential, boundary pushing coming-of-age storytelling. S01: 3.5/10 S02: 3/10 S03: 3/10
