La serie tiene lugar en Tokio después de que un terremoto de magnitud 8.0 en la escala de Richter sacuda la ciudad; Como resultado de ello, la torre de Tokio, el puente arcoiris y otros lugares característicos han sido destruidos. Seguirá la historia de los hermanos Onozawa, Mirai y Yuuki, que en aquél momento se encontraban visitando una exposición sobre robots en Odaiba con motivo de sus vacaciones de verano, y cómo luchan por llegar a su casa en Setagaya, donde se encuentra su madre. Ésta ha sido atendida por su parte por una chica llamada Mari Kusakabe.

Sad stuff almost had tears in my eyes.
I´ve had this anime for quite some time now, because of the events that happened in Japan i thought it was time to finally watch it. This anime is about what would happen if a earthquake with a magnitude of 8.0 would hit Tokyo. The story is well written, its about a brother and sister who are in Tokyo when the earthquake hits. Together with a women they met they try to get back to their home and their parents. If you want to have know what the people in Japan are going through right now than you should watch this anime. Off course its not the same but it should give you an idea what is happening over there in the past few days.
"Tokyo Magnitude 8.0" is quite a depressing anime. This is the story of two siblings who are surprised by a very strong earthquake during a trip that turns Tokyo into rubble and ashes. Luckily, the two meet a woman who continues to take care of them. Of course, the siblings want to go back to their parents and the woman to her little daughter, all three of them not knowing whether their loved ones are still alive. The story is told appropriately to the situation, which progresses relatively slowly and sluggishly. The animations aren't outstanding and neither is the character design, because more value was placed on visualizing the destroyed Tokyo. Here a sad story is told, but which is occasionally interrupted by glimmers of hope. The anime is really good and suitable for everyone who is looking for something emotional.
