On the eve of the Republic, the clash between the monarchist Aristarco and his son Jorge—a defender of the republican cause—animates the Ateneu School and ignites passions and persecutions.
Chapter 1
Mauro decides to take Sérgio to the boarding school. Jorge stands up to his father and defies an order from Aristarco. Venâncio gives his daughter some advice. Lívia finds out that Jorge has gotten into trouble.
