First 2 episodes good 3.. well i just feel cringe, since Ella is not in that level of autism, it doesn’t fit and feels very forced The only good autistic role I’ve seen was in Atypical, that definitely doesn’t go out of of the character, unlike Ella, it becomes “normal” from time to time which makes it weird, it’s not like shes “masking” or anything I guess the director just needed a diagnosed actress, despite her autistic acting skills I’m not watching it anymore I’ll check the French original like others suggested

I’m only a couple of episodes in, but I’m really enjoying this so far. I think they’re doing a decent job representing people on the spectrum. However, one thing I didn’t like was the comment made during her hiring by the police, where he said, “Oh good, I can make it a diversity hire.” It came across as if being a woman alone was the extent of diversity. A diversity hire isn’t just about meeting a quota—it’s about recognizing talented, capable individuals who might otherwise be overlooked due to systemic biases. It’s about enriching the workplace by bringing in people with varied experiences and perspectives, not just sticking to the same old mould. Quick edit for anybody that's saying oh, this is a ripoff of Astrid et Raphaëlle!!?? Who cares it's pretty decent so far and now I get to know about Astrid et Raphaëlle and watch that. There's also another show called high potential that is basically based off of this as well, but decided to make it a comedy and I enjoy that as well. If you don't enjoy something, just move on.

my main problem with this series is that every case ends with the suspect confessing

This is exactly why I end up hating some of these shows. The bait-and-switch. Patience starts out genuinely strong. It establishes a compelling dynamic between an autistic protagonist and a supportive detective figure, and that relationship is the heart of what makes the show work. It feels relatable, grounded, and refreshingly human. Patience is not written as a gimmick or a superpower checklist but as a person whose way of seeing the world actually matters, and the show takes time to let that dynamic breathe. For once, the premise feels earned rather than exploitative. That makes what happens next even more frustrating. Once the show clearly got the budget and green light for a second season, it pulls the rug out from under the audience. One half of that central duo is suddenly gone, replaced with a thin, poorly written excuse that gets barely any screen time and zero emotional weight. A character the show asked us to invest in is shuffled off with little care, and the replacement dynamic feels rushed and hollow. I was disappointed almost immediately, because the thing that made the show work is treated as disposable. Learning that Patience is based on the French series Astrid et Raphaëlle makes this even more noticeable. The original show runs for multiple seasons and is built entirely around the long-term evolution of its central partnership. The chemistry between Astrid and Raphaëlle is allowed to grow, shift, and deepen over time, which is why the format works. The cases matter, but the relationship is the engine. Patience actually has an advantage over its source material in one key way. The lead actor is autistic, and the show makes a visible effort toward thoughtful representation. In quieter moments, the UK version feels more restrained and emotionally grounded than the French original, which leans more heavily into fast pacing and personality clashes. When Patience focuses on character rather than plot mechanics, it feels sincere and distinct. That is why the Season 2 change hurts so much. Instead of building on what made the adaptation worthwhile, the show undercuts itself by discarding the very dynamic that justified its existence. Compared to Astrid et Raphaëlle, which understands that its audience is there for the partnership as much as the mysteries, Patience starts to feel like it is defaulting to generic procedural instincts. The result is a show that begins with real promise and then sabotages its own foundation. It is not that Patience is bad television. It is that it proves how fragile trust is between a show and its audience. When you sell people on a relationship, on representation, and on a specific emotional core, you cannot just swap pieces out and expect the same investment to carry over. I wanted to love this show. Season 1 gave me reasons to. Season 2 reminded me why I stay cautious.

I’m a big fan of Astrid et Raphaëlle - the original French series this is based on. I’m looking forward to this. [edit: after watching it] This is a great series, it’s a little darker than the French version yet stands up on its own merits. It retains the warm friendship between the 2 leads, but lacks some of the humor of the French original. Looking forward to more. Ella Maisy Purvis is autistic in real life which makes for an authentic performance.
