I can’t believe I slept on this series for so long. Absolutely amazing, mind bending, and twists at every turn. I was hooked from start to finish.
This anime is a true gem. Super interesting characters and dialogs. The manga is from Inio Asano which is an amazing mangaka.
This show rocks!!! Kind of an unfortunate name, but it's probably the most timely tv show being produced. It's about an alien spaceship suddenly appearing above Tokyo bay and how life somehow goes on as usual, except that there are all kinds of new groups popping up, human supremacists that want to wage total war on the ship, people that want to protect the aliens and give them rights, others that are suddenly withdrawing into rural self-sustaining communities - all contributing to a splintering society that is more and more engaged in a bitter fight among itself. Meanwhile, the political mainstream is moving continuously towards embracing Japan's new found technological military might, which is spurred on by this climate of a latent war. Politicians are profiling themselves as hardliners, pumping more and more public funds into the arms industry, which in turn is secretly building an ark for the elites to weather the coming armageddon. This is all communicated through mass media, be it TV or Social Media, that ambiently engulfs the main characters in their daily lives. It's really brilliant, I don't think there's ever been such a politically loaded anime as this The manga publication started in 2014, but it perfectly encapsulates modern day Germany (that's where I live, I'm sure you can draw parallels to most "western" countries). As i'm watching, I am constantly reminded of current events, but I'm also struck by my mundane life just dragging on while i'm witnessing the prelude to what's likely the next great war through my phone - just like the characters are in the show
