I have a huge soft spot for idol dramas. Even the bad ones, I always manage to get through. This one was amazing in some aspects and left a lot to be desired in others. The first episode was super rocky, the dialogues were awkward, the cinematography was strange and already I was put off by CEO Kang's abrasive and significantly selfish personality. Either I got used to the weird, web novel-y vibes, or they smoothed out because the watching experience got better in latter chapters and as I started to better understand the characters. There were a number of questionable story choices and the character development and motivations could have been a lot stronger and made better sense, but the cast really gave it their all, and once again Ryeoun did a stellar job. I hope he forever gets offered musical scripts with a healthy side of angst because he kills these roles. He's amazing at the raw, vulnerable, emotional scenes. For as messy (and at times awful) as the script was, I still enjoyed the drama overall. The music choices were great (still can't believe they included Seventeen and IU), the healing journey all the Shim family and Yoo Jin Woo went through was beautiful to see and even the unexpected bromance between the dad and Bong Gyu was a hilarious addition. And shout out to Lee Jin Woo (aka Shin Jin Woo). He kept up and held his own amidst the rest of the cast of professional actors. 7.5/10
