In a nutshell, we're meeting two people with white savior syndrome that are desperately trying to be seen as good. The documentary was a bit underwhelming and not that greatly produced,.it reminded me at times of "the vow" in which every terrible thing that was made was immediately excused because they had good intentions and they helped people.

Savior Complex is disturbing and frustrating but not in a simple hero/villain way. What stayed with me most is how it examines the dangers of good intentions, moral certainty, religion, activism, ego and power when vulnerable people are involved. It raises uncomfortable questions about who gets to help, who gets to judge and what happens when people become too convinced of their own righteousness. Messy, uncomfortable and worth thinking about.
