En 2005, Europa implementa un impuesto sobre el carbono para luchar contra el cambio climático, pero que, para las grandes empresas, se traduce rápidamente como el "derecho a contaminar, si pagas". Dos estafadores de Belville, Simon Weynachter (Vincent Lindon) y Alain Fitoussi (Ramzy Bedia), y un joven rico adicto a las finanzas y al póker, Jérôme Attias (Niels Schneider), se reúnen para desviar varios miles de millones de euros de estas "cuotas de carbono" de los estados de la Unión Europea a sus bolsillos... El caso fue bautizado como "el fraude del siglo" por los medios de comunicación franceses.

It achieves a remarkable level of tension to tell a story of financial fraud that unfolds primarily through digital transactions, especially in the episode "#5 Anton Zagury." It also tries to surround the story with a human background, making the character of Magistrate Weynachter, who at first seems only a narrator, become the protagonist, and reflects an obsession with the investigation that is parallel to the obsession with money of the criminals. But the most notable thing is that it avoids the light-hearted representation of a "white collar" fraud, like the one in the documentary, to show a story of ambition, corruption and weakness of the system.
