I have to admit although I've loved this show since episode one I sort of feel they've lost the spark along the way ... I guess they made the right choice when they decided to end it with season 12, it might be time! Anyway I'm gonna miss my weekly dose of Booth and Brennan and the rest of the squints :)
Maybe it's time to leave gracefully, this has gone on too long, out of ideas.
The first few seasons are great, but quality starts dropping fast. The first act (the discovery of the body) could almost always easily be part of a sitcom. The season 7 finale is also a giant mess of a plot with lots of sloppy writing, as is the entire Pelant storyline.
Bones is a very good detective series that stands out for its successful mix of criminal investigation, forensic science and humor. The duo formed by Temperance Brennan and Seeley Booth works particularly well: their opposite personalities create a dynamic that is both funny, touching and very effective. The series also has the merit of highlighting the scientific work behind the investigations, with a team of endearing and competent secondary characters. The plots are often well constructed, the episodes follow each other easily, and the evolution of the relationships between the characters gives a real depth to the whole. Even if some investigations can sometimes follow a rather classic formula, Bones remains a solid series, intelligent and very pleasant to watch, carried by a charismatic cast and a unique atmosphere.
