I think it worked. Mindy Kaling in the right role just kinda shines. Unfortunately it's kind of a narrow path for her. I'm still shook from Hustlers (2019), because Constance Wu just doesn't have any ability to portray herself as a stripper but darn if she didn't have the reach as an actress to just nail the role anyway. It's the same here. Constance as Daphne, Sam as Norville are highlights this season even though Norville didn't get as much play as I think he did last season. Mindy isn't *bad* here. Contrary to what everyone will say in any role she's ever in but she's not good like she is in other roles she's been in. The writing was much improved from Season 1. There were a lot less distractions save for what happens every time you introduce a non-binary character using [they] pronouns. Dialog gets weird. Weird is tolerable though. Part of what I like about this season is that Daphne and Velma are a couple and they spend half the season at odds but they never pull that random drama of separating them just because they're in a fight. Even when they're apart for strongly held personal reasons, they're still together. I didn't like the reveal of the villain. I felt it's this weirdly lazy thing that happens with Scooby-Doo. [spoiler] I just didn't hate Scrappy-Doo as a kid. I still kinda don't. But every Scooby-Doo story gets a massive full hard-on to say how much they hate Scrappy[/spoiler] . Honestly making [spoiler]Scrappy the psychotic villain[/spoiler] is kind of the lame move here because it's so reductive. We _get_ it. You all think [spoiler] it's hilarious to hate Scrappy-Doo [/spoiler]. But I did enjoy the other twist with the villain. That one felt earned and reasonable. The characters are interesting enough. The pacing is excellent. It's in just about every way an improvement from the cringe-topia of Season 1. This is now the irreverent modern retelling of Scooby-Doo with Velma/Daphne lesbian pairing that everyone keeps saying they wanted in the first place.
I thought... I just thought they would listen.. Did someone praise this show somewhere I missed? WHY? I have given up, and I love the cast, so it sucks to say goodbye but just...why? Note: Copied from episode 1 of season 2 - nothing else to say
It's fun and fresh just like season 1, really enjoyed it, but why did they have to [spoiler]make ghosts real? isn't the whole point of Scooby Doo to show that supernatural doesn't exist? [/spoiler]
