There are movies that don't deserve the hate and negativity they get, and then there's this one.
_Elektra_ is surprisingly better than Daredevil, though that's admittedly a low bar. It benefits from being a smaller, more focused story, giving its lead character a chance to breathe instead of getting lost in an overcrowded superhero origin. The quieter tone works in its favor, even if the execution never fully lives up to the premise. Jennifer Garner does what she can with the material, bringing a level of commitment to Elektra that the script rarely rewards. There are flashes of an interesting assassin redemption story, but they're buried beneath generic villains, uneven pacing, and a plot that never generates much excitement. The action is serviceable, but it lacks the creativity or intensity needed to elevate the film. Much like _Daredevil_, the dialogue can be rough, and the emotional beats don't always land. However, the movie at least feels more confident in what it wants to be, even if it falls well short of achieving it. It's less chaotic than its predecessor and easier to sit through, but it's also largely forgettable. _Elektra_ isn't the disaster its reputation might suggest, but it's far from a hidden gem. It's a middling superhero movie from an era when the genre was still trying to find its footing. 5/10.
Another rushed mess with a rushed plot, rushed fights that somehow manage to be both fast and boring, and a rushed romance that feels like it was written in under five minutes. Seriously, were those kisses even necessary? Is that really their idea of romance back then? “Don’t tell her your secret, we don’t trust her,” and then five seconds later they’re kissing? Who wrote this? And she gives way more older sister or mentor vibes to Abby than actual mom vibes. Overall, this was painfully boring and somehow felt longer than it actually was.
Good and evil. The girls defend us.
