People are way to hard on this movie. Suspend disbelief and enjoy the slap stick super hero spoof that is this gem.
It's a fun romp that I am probably way attached to because it came out when I was 11. Every time I watch it though its still enjoyable so I can't imagine giving it only a 7 as its one of the few films I come back to again & again.
So much talent, such a disappointment. What a shame.
“He who questions training only trains himself at asking questions” A lot of people probably wouldn’t believe me if i said Mystery Men is one of my all time favourite movies, but it’s true. I freaking love this film and it means the absolute world to me, sure it’s very goofy, and insanely ridiculous but that’s why it’s so damm awesome, i wish there were more movies like Mystery Men about. It’s truly a one of a kind Superhero flick. Mystery Men actually kind of reminds me of the live action Scooby Doo’s a bit, it’s got that really fun and silly vibe to it, and it’s the probably one most unserious movies ever made. These types of movies are some of my favourites. The characters are all funny as hell and the cast is superb here, I’m familiar with nearly all of the actors in this from William H Macy, Hank Azaria, Paul Reubens and the one and only Ben Stiller. I thought they all did a great job at playing these totally bonkers characters, who by the way have no real superpowers whatsoever, well except for the Spleen who has the incredible power of shitting his pants. What a power right? I don’t even think The Avengers could compare to the sheer power level of this insanely badass team. I mean you’ve got the Shoveler who’s the master at… well shovelling, Mr Furious who is not the type of guy you want to piss off due to his inner fury, The Blue Raja who is the master of cutlery, Carol who’s a master at Bowling, Spleen and his deadly farts of doom, Sphinx with his crazy one liners that make zero sense whatsoever and last but no least, The Invisible Boy, who actually can turn invisible, that’s if you look away first. Yeah I need a vacation after writing all that. The dialogue is ridiculously bad which makes it so funny, I could hear Sphinx’s super crazy one liners all day long as they never get old. It’s one of my favourite things about the movie actually as his famous quotes are hilarious like…. "When you care what is outside, what is inside cares for you" Apart from Sphinx’s iconic quotes, I don’t really have much else to say other than.. this movie is an absolute masterpiece and is one of the most underrated films in existence. I just wish we got a sequel as this could’ve been the real MCU. It’s of course a 10 out of 10. 10/10
Wow, what an underrated gem! I watched this as a kid and still remember some of its scenes vividly.
