It's a refreshing romantic comedy, with its brutal realism. It's not packed with laughs, but that's more a result of the uncomfortable subject matter. I loved how real it felt.
I really like this movie. And I like the ending because it is not a cliché happy ending.
Less a rom-com and more a rom-dram. While this was more a star vehicle for two very big comedy stars at the time, and while it's more of an examination of post break-up pettiness and not that laugh out loud funny, it's still a kinda interesting look at the classic sitcom trope of couples not communicating to make their split inevitable. It's two adults who don't actually want to break up with each other who get into an escalating war of pettiness to make the other jealous while both refuse to just be honest with the other until it's too late. It's also fun and interesting to see Jon Favreau and Vince Vaughn back on screen together a decade after Swingers where they're playing the exact opposite roles they did in Swingers.
>"It's not about doing the things you love, it's about doing things with the one you love!" Vince and Jen always get a good laugh out of me, but I found this to be a little hollow on my rewatch.
