I Realy Enjoyed this movie, When i first saw it was on a Saturday night when nothing was showing in my country, it was one of the first pictures i saw from the hands of M night shamalyan. The Movie isn great on Effects, or acting, the characters are just basic run of the mill type of people which is good and it works for the story, The story is more of a basic buildup with climatic last 15 mins, and figuring out wat there dealing with. In tru m Night shamalyan style. he tells this like as a modern fairy tale with an array of Arch type of characters (The Thinker, The fighter, The Healer) that sort of stuff. Also the lore about the narf an the scrunt was nice component to the story telling, it left me as viewer of this movie thinking and wondering about its origins. M night who tributes this to his time telling story's to his children before he sleeps. would also write a book to coincide with this movie. it detailed more about the scrunt, Narf eathon roles and mythology. Definatly not a blockbuster movie, But damm i wouldn't mind seeing it again :-) it truly enjoyed it for what it is.
Magical, and emotionally charged, children's bed-time story M. Night Shyamalan developed after creating it for and with his children. It's a nice story, but it's made great in film by all of the character actors (and there are so many memorable characters and actors here).
One of the characters in the film says that there is no originality left in the world. Well, he should watch the movie he is in because this, if nothing else, is an original film. First, I wish M. Night Shyamalan would stop putting himself in front of the camera. His presence in this movie is distracting. The characters were well done but I really could not have cared less about them or their plight. Paul Giamatti did a nice job as Cleveland Heep, the story's hero. This movie feels like a Shyamalan ego trip. The influences of Serling and Hitchcock in his previous films is truly appreciated and has made for some great movie watching. But with "Lady In The Water" his stock continues to drop. "The Village" was a hard pill to swallow and this one's even tougher. If seeing a different but not necessarily a good movie is your goal then give "Lady In The Water" a try. Otherwise, see one of his other movies again.
This movie was HORRIBLE. Bad direction, bad script, bad dialogue, bad acting. Stupid plot, terrible execution, super corny story. I hated this.
I read the book, it's a good & creative story...but, what (who) makes it a great film, are the actors 'n characters who populate this highly unlikely apartment complex in L.A. People have to pay rent, and most of these tenants would be homeless (or children living with parents), but that's beside the greater point which is that the characters make it believable that they are figuring out as things move along what they need to be doing to help the apartment manager and the Lady in the Water, the "Narf," (who is played beautifully by Bryce Dallas Howard -- I remember her as a blind girl who has to get medicine from outside, "The Village," in another Shyamalan movie; from Jurassic World as half of a perfect couple with Chris Pratt, and even Directing 'couple of Mandalorian episodes). There are so many memorable characters, _and actors,_ in this film. (Even if you're not s'posed to like them, they move the plot along, as Weasel says in Dead Pool.) Even after three or four times this continues to be a true story for me, filled with emotional bits and bobs, but that's me. Attributing meaning, drawing emotional reactions...and, obviously, YMMV. I hope you find it as **MAGICAL** as I do!
