Although it is in no way representative of what it's like to own and train a dog, especially a puppy, a shelter dog who's already had 7 homes, and a high-energy herding mix on top of that... this is a really lovely, heart-warming story. At least it's realistic in the sense that as a dog owner, you do meet a lot of people who give off huge dominance theory vibes and you just wanna strangle them. Alas, a movie doesn't have to be realistic to be very entertaining and make me cry. Always happy to see Grant Gustin thrive. And for those who want to know, "Does the dog die?": [spoiler]The dog does NOT die. :D[/spoiler]

This is an excellent family film. Bonus: no dogs die.

This is exactly the kind of movie you expect with a cover like this. It's not bad, the acting of the dog(s) is quite well done and overall it has a heartwarming message. But these movies always have a) new dog owners who have done 0 research on what type of breed they are getting, how to train a dog, or what getting a rescue specifically might entail - which is just a recipe for disaster (and rarely ends in a net-positive in the real word) and b) a dog whose misbehavior is "quirky" and not something that could lead to problems (from property damage to actual people getting hurt). It's a bad setup, not to mention the distress it puts the animal under. It's just frustrating when people might think this is what owning I dog (should) look like and I would not mind a bit more realism.

It made me cry even though * spoiler warning* no dogs die!!!! Ruby is awesome and all of the cast is fine too!!!! highly recommend

The dogs were great and Ruby deserves an Oscar but everyone else sucked. Highly enjoyable though.
