Brooklyn 45 should be right up my street. Small cast, one location, séance setup, loads of potential for tension and some properly nasty turns. Instead, it just plods along like it’s got nowhere to be. The problem is simple. The characters are boring. You’re stuck with them the whole time, and there’s nothing about them that makes you care. So when the film leans hard into long conversations about guilt, war, and past relationships, it just feels like noise rather than anything meaningful. It’s clearly going for that slow-burn, dialogue-heavy vibe, but there’s no hook to keep you in it. And for something built around a séance, it’s barely spooky. There are moments where it hints at something interesting, but it never commits. No real dread, no standout set pieces, nothing that sticks. It just sort of drifts from one conversation to the next and expects you to stay invested. It honestly feels like a stage play that should’ve stayed a stage play. You can see what it’s aiming for, but it forgets to actually entertain along the way. By the time anything remotely interesting happens, it’s too late. All setup, no payoff. I couldn't have come up with a dumber ending myself, bravo! [spoiler]It honestly felt like someone came in and yelled "are you guys still doing this??? Jesus christ, OK this guys shoots those two, door opens, the end. Next movie!"[/spoiler]

This was honestly a pretty boring movie. My wife and I just ended up letting it play in the background while we played around on our phones.

It has a bit of gore but it's not scary at all. One room location is a plus but it doesn't look very good. The acting is unnatural and it feels like the actors are reading their lines. Very stage play-ish. Some funny one-liners that made me chuckle. I didn't know where it was going for most of it and there's a few unexpected twists. They mixed a lot of ideas and genres together and that's what makes it special in a way but it also feels like it didn't quite know what it wanted to be. The story feels unresolved and the ending didn't fit with the rest, just a weird way to end it.

Wow. That was an intense film.
