First of all...DOA is NOT a good movie, at least in the story sense, BUT... ...I actually enjoy this one to the extent that I take it out once in a while. Why?!? Well...It might be the incredibly over-the-top fighting choreography. It might also be because there's some comedic worth to be had from this one. ...or I'm just a sucker for these kinds of stupid movies. Naaaah It's definitely the incredibly beautiful women, in skimpy clothing, fighting and being badasses... Call me shallow, and just this once...I won't fight you over it.
Tits and ass in a funny martial arts setting...what can go wrong. I don't know if all of this was actually meant to be this funny, but it is. Most entertaining if you have just hit puberty I think...nothing much for anyone else.
It was never going to be good (you can get that from the name by itself). The script was as simple and stupid as you would expect, the special effects were typical of a B-grade martial arts movie (complete with lots of wire work). But the awful part was the casting. Why, oh why, would you cast a movie like this and include so many people with no martial arts exposure at all? Why not at least let the stunt people have proper parts for a change? Sure, there were other problems too - for instance, "the best fighters from each style" all seemed to fight the same. The laws of physics were ignored a few times, one guy who couldn't fight a sandwich was selected for the tournament. But at least the ending was realistic (just joking there....) Would I recommend it? Only if you are into this genre and have low expectations...
Ultimate guilty pleasure for myself, half due to fond memories of playing the game itself. Surprisingly in the land of video game adaptions this is one of the strongest.
So bad that it turned out kidna good.
