High 3/10, downgraded from a 4/10 on third rewatch. A younger me thought this was fine but it really is hard to defend. The gorgeous Crystle Lighting's Chloe is my favorite character here and its a pretty small part. Tad Higlenbrink's Stifler impression just isn't very good! And being that he's the main character, thats a problem! There is SOME heart and sincerity going on with the ending and Matt Stifler's redemption, but the fact that the movie takes the WORST part of the original (taping Nadia) and makes it the entire plot, and once again has the perpetrator of it face very few consequences and then be easily forgiven (and his sidekick in the process face almost no consequences at all!) leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Plus things like one of the main characters being an obnoxious "Asian gangster" that barely gets called out or clowned on for it, thats another negative. Its at least more vibrant and well lit than Naked Mile/Beta House. Which makes it feel a bit better to watch. But each rewatch makes exposes the stink more and more.
This is where the saga started to show wear. They tried to replicate the magic with Stifler's younger brother, who wants to be equally chaotic but lacks the natural charisma. It has its moments if you like absurd camp humor, and Arielle Kebbel is a good counterpoint, but it feels like a decaffeinated version of the originals.
At least it has a redemption arc for Matt that's not bad, going from total jerk to someone half-decent thanks to music.
Picking up where the theatrical films left off, _American Pie Presents Band Camp_ continues the misadventures. A few series alum make cameos, but for the most part the film tries to be its own thing. The story follows Stifler’s younger brother Matt as he attempts to become the new “Stifmeister” by pulling a prank on the high school band, but when he’s caught he ends put being send off to Band Camp. It’s a pretty generic and uninspired plot and mostly relies on stereotypes. As with the rest of the series, the comedy’s based mostly on gross-out humor and sex antics, but there’s no heart or sincerity to the characters. _American Pie Presents Band Camp_ is a formulaic screwball comedy that doesn’t really add much to the franchise.
Oh dear... What a future the series has ahead of it.
