One of the director's most atypical films, _Cantando dietro i paraventi_ tells the tale of the pirateess Ching, a Chinese historical figure at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. A story with noble morals that fits in well with Olmi's narrative strand, it is nonetheless surprising in its choice of subject. Overall, there are several valuable scenes in this product. But despite the noteworthy effort, the film, amidst the courtly tones and fractious rhythms, is not among the director's masterpieces. A product definitely worth recovering if you are a fan, but not essential if you are not.
