>*"The son of the devil will rise from the world of politics."* A remake that's pretty much the same as the original, with some improvements and some downgrades. It's a decent remake and a decent movie but because it's so similar to the original, it fails to justify it's existence. David Thewlis (the paparazzi), Mia Farrow (the new nanny) and even Pete Postlethwaite (the priest) are all improvements for me. The two parents aren't anything to praise here, especially compared to the original cast. The kid actor playing Damien is hard to judge because he doesn't even talk and most of the time he just stares. The kills aren't even close to the level of the original, the score is one thing they're missing to hype them up. There's also some logic problems here and there, like the first kill, how did the gas go uphill to get to the cigarette? The hanging, pole and beheading kills were great though. The biggest highlights of the movie are whenever a dog was on-screen. Just like the original, it's too long and boring in some parts.
An unnecessary remake of the 1976 classic. It does not even come close to the original, so I recommend to skip this one and watch the original.
I really can't think of a single reason why I should recommend watching the 2006 remake of "The Omen" over the original. The movie itself isn't that bad and has a decent cast. However, it's also a rather sloppy approach for a remake, as it essentially replicates the original in nearly every aspect. And what's also missing is the phenomenal score by Jerry Goldsmith. Marco Beltrami, on the other hand, delivers fairly generic music. All in all, this makes the movie superfluous; the original is superior in every aspect, even today.
Just mashing in all the three original movies into one was a bit odd, making th movie feel extremely rushed. Also turning Katherine into a total bish was a weird choice... _"Maybe we don't need a nanny since you're not working right now?"_ _"WHAT?? I'M RAISING A CHILD, THAT'S WORK!! OF COURSE WE NEED A NANNY!!"_ _"uh okay whatever dear, cool logic, anyway I'm prince charming and of course very understanding."_
