Jeremy Piven stars in the touching holiday drama My Dad’s Christmas Date. Seeing that her father is sad and lonely two years after the death of her mother, Jules attempts to set him up with a new girlfriend; but while doing so she and her father are forced to confront unresolved issues over her mother’s death. It starts out as a typical romantic comedy, but then develops into a compelling character drama about dealing with grieve, loss, and estrangement. Both Piven and Olivia-Mai Barrett give incredible performances, and the script is well-written and does a good job at developing the characters; though it does have some problems wrapping up all the story arcs. Yet while it has some weaknesses, My Dad’s Christmas Date is an entertaining and heartwarming film about love and family.
