Extremely funny. The base idea - butchers hunting vegans as a new form of prime meat - is already good, but it is also perfectly handled, with the right amount of reluctance, awkwardness, the perfect switch to really start it, the doubts; etc. That's where you realize it's also quite disturbing. After a while Vincent starts to have doubts about what they're doing, but his wife doesn't, at all, and keeps pushing him. That's when you realize you've been watching them hunt people, and it was just hilarious, that's it, no moral issue. The movie is full of funny bits, like Sophie being a fan of a serial killer show. They're all called with a last name that id also a first name, and nicknamed the something from somewhere with more and more ridiculous ways of killing people as we move on. The secondary characters are great too. The customers, the victims all have their little gimmick. The friend that keeps enumerating the cost of things, and her asshole husband are very good too. The daughter's girlfriend and his "personal approach" to veganism. The movie manages to balance varied sources of humour never being too repetitive, the couple drama between Sophie and Vincent, the moral dilemma fading away in the beginning and coming back in the end. Really a great job for almost non stop, laughing. Perfect ending too as we don't go into much details and they just
end up as a subject in the serial killers show
. That just cuts away the probably dramatic storytelling scenes that would have been necessary and maybe hard to integrate with the rest, while focusing on the pure comedy. Very clever.
An incredibly charming and hilarious piece of dark comedy that manages to mash up romantic comedy with violent thrills while also providing a fun satire. Despite its vegan-hunting premise, this film is essentially a drama about a crumbling marriage. The drama and the characters are always endearing, with a fair balance between gag and violence & gore that makes for a morbidly entertaining experience. The chemistry between the two lead actors works wonderfully. While it can get a bit repetitive in its humor, it nevertheless allows you to have a good time as long as its morbid, provocative sense of humor is your kind of humor.
Nothing is better than making dark comedy the ridicule of vegans, so yeah, the meat eater started to use and hunt vegan for the quality meat they have 😂😂😂. I really didn't expect this when I watched this, but yeah, it works.
I had no idea what to expect. And I loved it. It was subtitled (I don't speak French), which changes a comedy, but I think made it better. If you like dark humour in a light comedy with a bit of old people romance - or have just had a hard day at work and want to loose yourself in something different, this is a great choice.
When the fuck did I watch this???
