Shailene Woodley is really hot in this... still not worth watching.
What is Shailene Woodley doing slumming in this garbage? If she wasn't in it, I would've given this a rating of two or three.
I am thinking due to writer's strike Hollywood has run out of ideas and this is most probably written by ChatGpt or Bard's help. Awful waste. I love Whitehall and Woodley but two awesome people coming together for such a crap movie what a damn waste.
It’s always amazing to me that a film like this gets funding. If the writing wasn’t so bad I could imagine that things went wrong after it was green-lit. The basic premise had hope so maybe the film got funding based on a synopsis and a creative sales pitch based around shooting it on the cheap and using likeable but low profile actors for the leads. Jack comes out looking a little better which is maybe virtue of him not being able to play anything too far removed from his own personality — which is equal parts perfect English gentleman and English scoundrel. His costar is made to look much worse as she tries to navigate her way through poor scripting and direction. The support cast mostly look like they are in a student film. Believability is pushed aside to make way for some woeful jokes and clumsy turning points where it’s evident that the writer decided that was the point where the cliched turn should take place. The normal everyday robots look like people with crappy masks on and they didn’t even bother hiring professional performers who can move like robots. I did get 1 or maybe 2 very brief laughs from this or I would have given it 1/10. I don’t know what the budget was but it must have been enough to ensure something better than this tripe. Some films are just bad in all the typical ways so it’s the mistakes are boring to observe. At least Robots is so inexplicably bad that there was a some mild entertainment in seeing how badly they could screw it up — still, not so bad it’s worth watching though.
I reviewed this film for the Hugo-winning blog Nerds of a Feather: www.nerds-feather.com/2023/08/what-does-robots-have-to-say-about-our.html
