(FILMAFFINITY)

What an odd film. This is my third Peter Weir film and I'd say that this Australian folk horror/dark comedy is unsettling in a way that I wasn't expecting. This takes genre conventions and pitches them out the window for a unique and clever approach at small town occult horror. It has a very bizarre tone that makes it strangely compelling and laced with pitch black sense of humor that's terrifying to think about. It's quite slow and mostly reliant on atmospherics to move the film along, but it's effective and it comes with bizarre characters and has some good mystery to it. A really good film overall, I'd definitely recommend.
