_Port Authority_ certainly had its faults (I would've enjoyed a deeper look into the kiki ballroom scene and found the supporting roles a bit too summarily dealt with) but these details were mere superfluous appendages that could be easily covered over and forgotten so that the movie's true identity, that of beautiful, intriguing and charming film, could shine through like a rainbow sun. Fionn Whitehead turns in a strong performance as the simple boy with anger issues who falls for a young trans woman. Model / NYC ballroom celebrity Leyna Bloom plays the love interest (young director Danielle Lessovitz said trans actors don't play cis roles so she didn't see why she should recruit a cis actor to portray Wye) and her performance is as graceful and elegant as is she herself. Watching Whitehead and Bloom on the screen was like reading an urban poem you don't have to think too hard about to get. Produced by Martin Scorsese, _Port Authority_ proves yet again that Un Certain Regard is the most exciting category at the Cannes Film Festival.
