This sequel is mostly stupid and comes off as trying too hard but it is still a pretty fun watch. The first half of the film is so awful that I considered turning this off. The acting is consistently bad pretty much the entire runtime. The talk show part is pure cheese and it's incredibly unrealistic how a 'morning show' airs something like ghost investigations 💀. But it gets better as the film goes. There are lots of terrifying moments once it reaches the second half. The scares are all impactful and the location is used so efficiently this time. Definitely less effective than the first but still a worthwhile entry and I appreciate the addition to the lore of the hotel.
I decided to give this series another chance based on reviews of the first movie. I watched the director’s cut of HH1, then watched HH2: The Abaddon Hotel last night. I don’t think I can continue on to HH3 cuz I can’t think of a movie that should exist less than HH2. Excruciating acting, illogical plot devices to explain why *everything* is on film… this felt like a cash grab. It made no sense and wasn’t even entertaining!
A major nosedive from the first. This spoonfeeds you the whole lore from the more generic second half of the prequel movie and is sideloaded with non-subtle "scares" and meh acting. Another one for the "less is more" pile.
This story was really the next logical step if a sequel was going to be made. What really worked about the first movie, for me, was the slow build that allowed you to invest in the characters. None of that is present here, this one is ready to go, out of the gate. If the first movie took too long with the scares, you're in luck. _The Abaddon Hotel_ is basically a haunted house in movie form. If you liked all of the jump scares from the first movie, you're going to like them here too. The weakest part of this one is the acting. Man, not everyone here is a bad actor, but some are, mainly one. No names. I get it, trying to act as if you're not acting can't be easy. Several reviews had said this one was a step down, and I can see why, but I still thought it was good. Really lacks the slow burn quality that I love so much about the first movie. Some points are knocked off for the acting, edits that spoon feed information to the audience like we're idiots, and the contrived reasons that people would be recording some of what we see. Aside from that, not bad. If you liked the first _Hell House_, this one is still worth a watch. I'm ready for the next two.
