Very average story that lives from the sexiness of its main actors Carré Otis and Mickey Rourke (before he made his face unrecognisable). More of a soft porn than a RomCom at times. For fans on the cast.
It is Nine and a half weeks in Rio de Janeiro.
the lead actress walks with the same blank stare throughout the film
Wild Orchid is a poorly made and meandering ‘80s erotic drama. The story follows a young lawyer who’s sent to Rio to assist in a business deal, and while there she meets a man who opens her up to the exotic culture and encourages her to give into her passions. Mickey Rourke, Carre Otis, Jacqueline Bisset, and Bruce Greenwood lead the cast, but Otis gives a rather weak performance (which is a problem given that she’s the lead). Also, the storytelling is especially poor and it’s often confusing as to why things are happening. However, some of this is likely do to the bad editing (which is another problem). Tawdry and exploitative, Wild Orchid is an unfocussed mess of a film.
