Didn't hate it as much as I thought I would actually. Jennifer Stone as Abby Hanover is amazing and gives off "took the bad film seriously" vibes. Noone else is anything to write home about, but especially noteable that Maiara Walsh is REALLY not a convincing alpha bitch. ETA: Actually upgraded it to a 5 on second watch. Its really not that bad. People hate it because it doesnt live up to the original (and never should have happened, lol) but as a standalone movie its... fine. It helps how much I love Jennifer Stone.
first one was totally slay but this is partially slayed
Direct-to-TV sequel of Mean Girls. Yes, that alone should tell you everything you need to know. Jo needs money for college, Abby's millionaire father (the school outcast) pays her to be her friend, together they try to dethrone the new Plastics. Sounds like Mean Girls, right? Well, no. It has none of Tina Fey's wit, no memorable characters, no quotable dialogue.
The "twist" of Abby finding out her friendship was bought is so predictable you can see it coming from the first five minutes. And the final reconciliation is so forced.
The new Plastics are a cheap imitation of Regina George and her entourage. Everything feels generic, low budget, and completely unnecessary. It's the typical cash grab you make when the first one worked but you have neither the talent nor the budget to replicate it. Stick with the original and pretend this one doesn't exist.
It's a nice one, but the first movie was better.
Very predictable and certainly no gem like the first one but it's okay.
