This is definitely one for the fans. Working at the Laurel and Hardy Museum, I've learnt over time that this may not be the best introduction to their work. If you're not familiar with the characters then the drama that it attempts to satirize seems old fashioned today. It's ironic because the humour is timeless, and actually this film is one of my many favourites. It has some of their best lines, quite frankly, as stories go it's one of their absolute best. (Along with "Going Bye Bye".) Of course as with usual with Laurel and Hardy, the main story is not original here. They made a film in 1927 called "Slipping Wives", where the basic story is much the same. "The Fixer Uppers" is an adaptation from the original and in this case it's an improvement on the original and works better as a talkie. (Not always the case, I might add.) (By the way, Trakt has put the wrong cover on this film. If you are searching for this film on DVD, then it's NOT on disc 14 "A Job To Do", it's on disc 10: "Snow!")
