Did not read the book or watch the documentary. Based only on the film alone, I feel like this was a difficult script/story in movie format. Given that, the excellent acting really carried the film, and prevented it from being a flop.

**Good performances, but fails to show crucial details nor any solid representation of the original author’s reasons and motivations behind creating the persona/avatar of J.T. LeRoy. The documentary is a much better representation of this story.**

A fascinating true story, and one played brilliantly by Kristen Stewart and the wonderful Laura Dern.
