Really sumptuous, beautiful set design and costumes. The wartime plotting was reasonably interesting, even as the central melodrama was a little rough. I’m sure Granger was a nice guy, but I’d love to see his best movies with…someone else playing his roles. Even with his lines dubbed in Italian, he just doesn’t work for me.

Beautifully shot & smartly directed. Valli holds the center & holds the picture together, and Granger's style is perfectly suited to Italian melodrama.
