This is such a wonderful movie. I can't remember the last time I saw a movie that went from being so funny to so sad but even it the saddest parts, it still finds a way to be funny. Everyone is great in this especially Kumail and Zoe. Their chemistry instantly makes us root for them to be together.
It was very different from what I expected, which made it a perhaps an even better movie. It was beautiful, funny and quite "easy going". It's not a very "light" movie though, I would say, but it is very enjoyable. It gave the viewer a right mixture between sad and happy. It makes you laugh, but it also makes you think. Kumail and Emily were a great match, two characters who really made each other better and more enjoyable to watch. The storyline was very interesting and quite new/refreshing as well. I can't think of any other movie who tells about this subject. It is very original.
This is why I don't want to go online, 'cause it's never good. You go online, they hated Forrest Gump. Frickin' best movie ever.
I'm not sure how does this movie work if you don't know Kumail and Emily before watching it, either from The Meltdown or any of their other works, but I'd imagine that knowledge (assuming, you know, you don't dislike them) gives the movie a lot of its power. With this being said, it is a well-done movie, it is funny in parts, sad in other parts, and manages to be funny even when it's sad, which is hard to do. The cast was great, maybe aside from Ray Romano, who basically just plays Ray Romano in every role he gets, a little annoying but not too much. In short, expect to laugh a little, expect to cry a little, and maybe laugh while you're crying, something like that.
"It was a tragedy. I mean, we lost 19 of our best guys." Nanjiani can be hit or miss, but he's pretty much at the top of his game here. I love watching films like this where I haven't read a review or synopsis for it, and I was basically hit by the brick
of the Big Sick. I'd assumed it was a metaphorical sickness in the title.

Then, I get to the end and SHUT THE FUCK UP, THERE'S A REAL EMILY? Excellent script. Well done film, fantastic performances.
