Wow! Jessica Lange is extraordinary in this role.This is about the life of actress Frances Farmer, who rose to fame in Hollywood in the 1930s before struggling with mental illness. The brutal treatment Frances receives at the hands of the medical establishment and the studio system is horrifying. If only Fraces’ toxic mother would’ve left her alone! Lange's Oscar nomination for this role was well deserved and she should've won. Some of the information in this movie seems conflicting and possibly not entirely true. The direction, pacing and balance felt all over the place. However, it’s worth watching for Jessica Lange’s performance alone.
