Not your typical action filled western. It was raw, overall well-made and I liked the acting. The story line was a bit slow imho
Robert Altman is why I don’t trust critics. I really wanted to like this movie, especially the last 15 minutes, but, phew, I can’t believe this got 86% on RT. It’s a 5/10 for me, like all other Altman movies. I’m done with Altman.
Far easier to parse with subtitles on, because I continue to struggle with Altman's incoherent use of sound design. That aside, I loved this uniquely beautiful vision of a Northwest town's growth and the ruining forces of capitalism. Have never seen a movie that looked like this, and while it takes a bit to get used to, I found myself swept away in the visuals of it all. Leonard Cohen's music, the coats...it's all just such a mood.
