An excellent boxing movie from 1956 that depicts the mob manipulations of the boxing business and the way they exploit(ed) the boxers ruthlessly in order to enrich only themselves. The movie is voluntarily a bit caricatured but, according to some witnesses of the time, not all too far from reality. The acting performances are excellent and the ending is heartwarming, especially knowing that this was Bogart’s last ever movie. This was also the first movie I know of that took a handheld camera into the ring, giving the viewer the impression of being directly in the fight. A technique often copied since. I highly recommend this movie to all fans of sports movies.
