George Clooney stars in the indie thriller The American. Based on a novel, the story follows a weapons specialist who’s sent to a village in Italy to make a custom rife for an assassin. The writing is rather weak but Clooney’s able to punch it up a bit and delivers a nuanced performance that gives his character an air of intrigue. However, the pacing is rather poor and the plot is fairly predictable. A disappointing and problematic film, The American is a meandering character drama that doesn’t really go anywhere.

its slow but awesome to watch

The American is arthouse 007 heavily inspired by spaghetti westerns. Jack breaks just as many hearts as James, but he breaks his own in the process.

Slow movie it takes its time which its good.

Dark slow burn character study that holds its mystery right up to the final frame. Beautifully cinematography by Anton Corbijn - almost every shot is a picture postcard. Recommended for fans of Clooney’s indie art house vibe movies.
