Now we know where the Professor gained all his knowledge prior to boarding the S.S. Minnow.
Usually if I said “the giant crabs have better characterisation than the human characters” it’d be a sarcastic dig at the movie, but this time it’s a compliment. Those crabs have rich inner lives. Also, while I wouldn’t call Roger Corman a feminist director at least the only human woman in the movie is taken seriously as a scientist. It isn’t much but it’s more than I expected from a movie with that poster.
Telepathic talking crab monsters is a great premise, just wish they did more with them.
Research team lands on island when another boat that is coming up behind them hits a wave and a man falls overboard. The man sinks and when hi8s body floats back up his head is missing. On the island the team are experiencing tremors off and on all the time when one of them discovers that they could be facing a giant worm or perhaps some other giant animal. Most of the team disbelieves that of course and just go on studying, looking for a reason why the first expedition team disappeared. Excellent little Corman flick with the usual horrendous special effects that you would expect from the master of the cheapie-film. And not only are the effects horrendous they are absolutely terrible beyond words. Anywho the film is quite good and you should watch it if you need something to do.
