It is an okay straight-to-DVD action flick with JCVD. Not the best he's done, but also not the worst. Taking up a job with the border patrol, he's almost straight away up against the odds, fighting a losing battle with smugglers, that are in fact rogue special forces led by Stephen Lord & Scott Adkins. Generally fine, with some good brawls throughout but nothing outstanding. Scott Adkins is convincing. Filmed entirely in Bulgaria, which is evident in some cheap production shots. As a bonus JCVD carries a pet rabbit with him, almost everywhere he goes. So yeah... don't fuck with the rabbit.
Just about enjoyable. 'The Shepherd: Border Patrol' is a solid enough, mindless action film. Jean-Claude Van Damme (Jack) certainly carries things, but Natalie J. Robb (Capt. García) is fairly good in her role. All the antagonists are very much cliché and predictable, though. The film attempts a load of heartfelt and profound storylines which don't really connect at all, with any twists it produces hardly surprising one bit. However, if you take this for want it is - a 95 minute brawl - then you can find ways to get entertainment from it. If you like this genre, you'll probably rate this 2008 production from Isaac Florentine.
