The acting at the beginning of the film was kind of iffy. The chemistry between the actors didn't click until later in the film. Not sure if that was the intent, but the end and the message was nice. It's a lot like most Chinese families where the parents are often stand offish and are often very critical until much later in life. For some, never reaching that point of making the heart felt connections with their own children. Not as good as it could've been, but really better than most of the reviews. Kinda a sleeper movie.
