"You took the purest thing in your life and corrupted it, for what? For what?" I just love watching Nick Holte playing angry. He just has the right face for it and the right tone in his voice. I love it. Anyway with me totally being into the NBA Playoffs again and the Thunder still being a damn good team and me enjoying watching them, I thought it would be a good time to watch a sports movie and a Basketball one at that. I'm still really interested in the whole recruiting system and college/university sports system in the United States, I was happy that this one leaned in on that. I get why the players want and deserve money because they bring in a lot of money and when I see atmosphere clips on the internet of college games I just love it and it always looks packed. A lot of money most go through there. And in Blue Chips we get our big man Shaq, who isn't that bad. So this was the right one for me. Points shaving, the spread, Shaq Attack, Larry Legend, Bob Cousy hitting all those free thows, Allan Houston, the edit at the end with the shot clock ticking down, press conferences, the basketball kicking incident, Ed O'Neill showing up, the farm boy, cheerleaders, being angry at referees, Blue Chips really has it all. Blue Chips looks good too and it isn't dull at any moment. But what do you expect with William Friedkin in the director's chair. I wish he did more sports movies. We need more legendary directors making sports movies. I always enjoy a sports movie. How would a Christopher Nolan sports movie look like? If you haven't seen Blue Chips yet and you enjoy the work of William Friedkin, what are you waiting for?

A fairly average sports drama. It plays with melodramatic themes of righteousness, but doesn't allow itself to totally dip into sentimentality. If you dig sports flicks, you should enjoy.
