Decent special effects cannot save a film which tries hard but fails. Recently The Martian broke the trend for movies set on Mars being awful. This film joins the bad ones - Red Planet, Mission to Mars and Ghosts of Mars.

It has not been bad although as they always do what they should not do to make it easy and lose, at least the end has not been bad

The special effects are pretty good, from the infected to the Martian plant, equipment etc. the story is very mid and at the times when Vincent was having his many panic attacks I felt like skipping forward. The ending was a letdown with an "is he isn't he" cliffhanger this movie did not need. If you enjoy sci-fi, and you are struggling to find something to watch, then this movie will pass that time but leave you underwhelmed.

Space zombies aren't really my thing and this does almost nothing to stand out from that basic description. Still, it's well put together and has a nicely ambiguous ending.
