Fun movie! Very cool to see an early 80s LA. The soundtrack is great...except the song performed live at the Prom is called "Johnny are you queer" or something insanely offensive like that. It's the chorus and they repeat it over and over and over and over. The back up dancers even do a limp wrist action! It's just so unbelievably wrong. I know it was the early 80s but whewwwwww boy.
"Well, fuck you, for sure, like totally!" Grody, Tubular, Totally, Barf me out, Val, Gnarley, Bag your face, Bodacious, Bitchin', To the max, Dudette, Wastoid, Take a chill pill and Trippendicular. Valley Girl has taught me so many new English phrases! Anyway, Martha Coolidge's Valley Girl marks the major film debut of Nicolas Cage after being in Fast Times for about 10 seconds and it shows his charm right away. I just love his look here and he fits the role perfect. The chemistry between him and Deborah Foreman is great and I just love Deborah Foreman's smile! It is a thing of beauty. We also get a great soundtrack, a story loosely based on Romeo and Julliet. A dick of a "boyfriend" in Tommy (Michael Bowen), loads of kissing, parties, a great speech from Julie's (Deborah Foreman) dad, food being thrown, bad friends and another 80's time capsule. Valley Girl isn't a special movie but it is fun enough to check out and see the chemistry between former lovers and seeing the first big role of Nicolas Cage is always a plus.
Awesome love and coming of age story. Its a Cage classic. Im a sucker for Cage movies. When you go to see a Cage movie you know you want entertaiment and he Always delivers. thats wassup
I am a child of the 80s. While I still regularly listen to 80s music, the same can't be said for 80s movies. Sure, it is fun to look back on the era to see what things looked like (or how Hollywood tells us they look), but for the most part the movies are crap. And that brings us to this movie.... I can't remember the last time that I saw a movie that was this.... unnecessary? Maybe it would have meant more if I understood the difference between Hollywood and the Valley, but I do not. There have been hundreds of movies about people from different sides of the track having a relationship (side note: the description says that Cage's character is a "punk", which is hilarious). I'd be willing to be that most are better than this movie. follow me at https://IHATEBadMovies.com or facebook IHATEBadMovies
And I thought Jiu Jitsu would be the most painful experience trying to watch every film Nicolas Cage has made. How little did I know..
