Meh, The Program is a pretty run-of-the-mill football drama. It deals with all the familiar tropes without having much original to say. It'll do in a pinch if you're starved for this kind of movie.
This was good but not as good as I remembered.
Watching The Program for the first time more than 30 years after its release was a nice surprise. It’s a solid sports film that captures the intensity and chaos of major college football, showing both the glory and the pressure surrounding the sport. The cast is superb, with multiple characters representing different sides of the college athletics experience — ambition, temptation, pressure, and ego. It’s engaging and dramatic, even if it doesn’t quite hit the emotional highs of something like Varsity Blues. Still, it’s a strong entry in the sports movie genre and one that holds up better than expected. I’ll definitely be revisiting it again at some point. Rating: 3/5 – 75% – Worth Watching
Football captains don't always live a nice life.
Watchable with great cast, but ultimately not a satisfying movie overall.
