Jim Carrey does a good Scrooge but him doing all the ghosts is a little much. His face on the ghost of Christmas past was a little distracting. Overall the movie is so-so, I'm not a huge fan of the Charles Dickens story though.
I've never seen other Christmas Carol adaptations and I don't need to because this is the definitive Christmas Carol for me! It's so fantastic and there is that sort of nostalgia I have with the film. Although it's not advertised as a horror film, it pretty much is if you've seen it. I remember watching it the first time as a kid and had trouble sleeping and was scared to go to the bathroom for weeks because how devastatingly creepy it was. Even too scary for its target audience. It gives me such a strange feeling every time I watch it that no other film does. It's stunningly animated, the visuals are truly dazzling, the human characters are realistic and very convincing. Definitely one of my favorite films to watch during Christmas holidays.
Why call 'The Exorcist' the scariest horror ever made when Robert Zemeckis 'A Christmas Carol' exist. Season's greetings from hell! One of the most ugliest and horrifying Christmas movies out there. However, I respect it in some strange way. There's nothing like it. It's weirdly in the same vein as Tom Hooper's horror masterpiece 'Cats', in terms of CGI and having an identity crisis.
Jim Carrey as Scrooge isn't bad. As the 3 ghosts is a distraction though. This probably is the most visually stunning version. Just not the best.
I’m a big fan of the Polar Express with it actually being my absolute favourite Christmas movie of all time so there was a pretty high chance that I would love this too as it’s pretty much the same animation style and I know a ton of people hate this style but it’s not even that bad honestly and people overreact way too much about it, I mean if anything’s it’s actually quite unique I think. I’m a big fan of the story of The Christmas Carol itself and it kinda reminds me of School which’s weird I know but that’s one of the few topics we UK kids used to study in English and it’s also the story I enjoyed the most. I haven’t seen to many of the movies based on the book but I just don't think any can really top this one off for me, I like it a lot and it’s one I’ve seen so many times. I think Jim Carrey did a incredible job at playing old miserable Scrooge and you could also tell it was him even though it’s animated with how his face looked as only Jim Carrey can pull off such hilarious facial expressions. The ending is pretty nice and I just love the way Scrooge goes from being an absolute misery to being super happy and joyful, actually he’s a bit to happy from my liking as he was acting like he was on drugs but was still very nice. I’m gonna give The Christmas Carol a very solid 9 out of 10 as it’s such a great film to stick on at Christmas time and really gets you in the whole mood for Christmas overall. 9/10
