I don't know that any other documentary has affected me quite like _Roger & Me_ just did. It's engrossing and incredibly well-written. The editing is stellar. So much of what was captured is so absurd and ironic that the film feels like a satire, but you keep remembering over and over again that it isn't. Despite being a documentary and being about specific people in a specific place and time, it feels timeless—not to mention how relevant it also feels in this current political and economic climate. I will warn you who have not seen it that there is an extremely brief shot of
a man being shot in the chest
as well as a minute-or-so-long scene of
a rabbit being beaten to death, skinned, and gutted
. Both of these things, however, though awful to see in differing (or similar) ways, are quite important to the message being conveyed by the film.
