This was more touching than I was expecting. People are not just one thing. Artists are complicated. I think it's more interesting than the John Candy documentary because it's not 90 minutes of people saying how great he is.
Yeah, Chevy Chase is a jerk and it shows in this documentary. But there are still some interesting here and at least they did show both sides of the story.
People who call themselves complex and deep are usually shallow and easy to read. A fascinating documentary about an arrogant but talented man who seems confused about why nobody likes him. I haven't heard a single good thing about Chevy from other famous people or regular people who encountered him—just horror stories.
It’s something watching this as someone who’s only experience with Chevy is as the least funny part of Community. It’s not fair to judge him off of out of context clips but never bought him as this comedic master. Most interesting when it gives him enough rope to hang himself, less so when it’s running defense.
Gotta be amazing that your lasting legacy is that you’re a dick. The doc focuses mostly on this while going through the standard bits of Chevy’s career, which makes it an interesting watch. It somewhat excuses him in parts while not shying away from his bigger controversies which is appreciated.
