Blew my expectations out of the water. A refreshing and singular marriage of both camp and empathy… the surreal and the naturalistic. It harkens back to the simplicity of pre-technology overlords, while speaking to a futuristic social possibility. The performances were enthralling and intentional. I was struck by how cinematic the production was, given the indie budget. We need more movies told from more perspectives — and this film is proof. 10/10.
This is what it sells, mostly a trip into depraved America. There are some good jokes, but it kinda fails to renew itself after a while. The last part, with the Mechanic, is a nice change, but a bit long, and it kinda feels like a different movie. The ending where
Danni ends up being the sacrificial lamb
, is good too, if a bit cliché. Overall it feels more like small scenes hastily patched together than a consistent story. It could have been a 20 minutes short instead of a full feature.
